JAMIE TOMOSADA

Jamie Tomosada

Jamie Tomosada works for the King County Wastewater Division as an engineer with the Brightwater Treatment Plant project based in Woodinville, Wash. Jamie interned with King County while in school and now, as a full-time employee, has seen a shift in the type of knowledge she needs to have in order to do her job.

"I realized how important elements such as contracting, procurement and construction are in the engineering industry and decided to take a few classes that would help me grow as a technical engineer and project manager," Jamie said.

Since Jamie's job duties include handling contracts, procurements and overseeing the design of the Brightwater project, she found the curriculum of the UW Graduate Program in Construction Engineering to be a perfect fit with the skills she needed to acquire. Even better, Jamie has been able to immediately apply those new skills to her job.

"I use the knowledge that I've gained in the program on a daily basis and I'm very grateful that I decided to take the classes."

Jamie is confident that the construction engineering program is giving her the right mix of skills and expertise that she will need to succeed as a project manager and engineer.

"Many engineers are graduating with so much technical knowledge but lack the business and construction management portion of the grand scheme. Having the construction management knowledge will help me to become a successful project manager in the future and become a well-rounded engineer."
